You’ve gotten engaged. You’ve set a date. Now you just need to figure out where you’ll tie the knot. Deciding on your wedding location is a huge part of your wedding planning. The location of the wedding really sets the entire tone of the wedding and it can affect a lot of other aspects of planning as well. Destination weddings are a great way to combine the importance of your wedding celebration with a fun trip for the people you love. According to the Wedding Planner Institute, destination weddings often include about 48 guests on average. So, if you are thinking cool location and a smaller guest list, a destination wedding could be right for you. Let’s look at a few clues that might suggest a destination wedding is right for you.
You Want a Trip, Not Just Celebration
A destination wedding is a combination of a wedding and a vacation. This combo often makes a separate honeymoon unnecessary. One of the great things about a destination wedding is that once the ceremony is over, you are already on your trip and can start relaxing and enjoying yourself immediately.
You’re Okay With a Short Guest List
Obviously, a destination wedding is going to be more expensive than a traditional wedding as you will be attempting to treat at least some of your bridal party to a paid-for trip. So, your guest list in general will be smaller. It’s not expected that you pay for every guest to come to the destination, but odds are few people will be able to make the destination. This all translates into a much smaller ceremony in the end. If you have your heart set on a huge ceremony with everyone present who has ever known you, then a destination wedding might not be the best idea. But if you’re cool with just a few of your very closest and most invested friends and family present where you can also enjoy a fun trip together, then a destination wedding is the way to go.
You’re Okay Sharing Your Honeymoon
Remember, a destination wedding often means that your wedding and honeymoon are wrapped up in one trip. This means that at least some of your guests will be around on your honeymoon. Most couples don’t find this awkward but if you think you would, then nix the guests and just decide where to get married.
